Yesterday I've finally managed to set up my WL-500gP to run Shairport and stream my PC audio to my amplifier. I did it based on Qui's blog blog and it works pretty well. What I want however is to add a twist to it: I don't want to connect to the internet through the WL-500gP because it onyl has 802.11g and that would really cut back my internet connection speed. The way I have it set up is this:
CABLE MODEM == MIKROTIK ROUTER
In case it's not clear: the cable modem is connected to a Mikrotik router I had laying around (chose it for the superb performance ~100MBit/s WAN - wireless), the PC is connected to the Mikrotik through wifi and the WL-500gP via ethernet. Here comes my problem:
- If I disable DHCP on the WL-500gP and connect it via LAN port, then shairport connects flawlessly but I have no internet connection on the WL-500gP router itself (eg. if I want to wget something).
- If I connect the WL-500gP through the WAN port then it has internet, iTunes can see the Shairplay server but it can not connect.
I tried to forward a port for airplay but I got confused if it is at all possible to forward a port onto the router itself.
Any help is appreciated, if I can get internet to the WL-500gP while connected to the LAN I'm happy, but I'm really curious as to what I should do to be able to connect to a service running ON the router from the WAN side. I'm not even sure what to google…
P.S.: this is what netstat looks like when the router is connected through WAN:
C:\Users\David>netstat -n [...] TCP 192.168.88.248:55781 192.168.88.241:5002 SYN_SENT [...]
It goes this far but stops here.
Based on my google searches I should forward port 5002 (TCP) and 6000-6003 (UDP) although I never managed to catch any UDP ports even when the music is playing.
