I have just gotten an ASUS RT-N66U as my old Linksys finally died. I tried a couple times just to change the admin password and I kept having to reset the thing because it wouldn't accept any username/password combination after that. So, I decided I would put Tomato on it. However, with Tomato my performance is lackluster at best.
If I directly connect to the modem via LAN, it flies, so I know it's not the modem's problem. However, I have several wifi devices I'd like to use, so that's not a full-time option. I have a problem with huge amounts of packet loss with both LAN and Wireless connections. Sometimes, the performance is great, and then for a stretch of time I can barely use the Internet at all. This cycling tends to be on the order of minutes. I've tried many combinations of restarts and whatnot to try to improve the situation, but it just isn't improving.
I have Shibby Tomato, Tomato Firmware 1.28.0000 MIPSR2-116 K26 USB AIO-64K. Should I reflash a different firmware? Is there something I'm missing here? I've tried enabling and disabling QoS and the Bandwidth Limiter, but neither has an effect.
I'm not sure what information would be of use for debugging here, so please let me know if you need more info.
