OK, I think I'm going insane. I'm running Tomato Firmware v1.28.0503 MIPSR2Toastman-RT-N K26 Std on an Asus RT-N12 (D1 listed on box, B1 reported as model in Overview). Life was fine for months but lately, accessing a plain http video feed like YouTube causes the video to stall and buffer extremely slowly to the point that it isn't watchable unless I let a 5 minute video cache for 10+ minutes on pause. I have no other performance issues I am aware of. FTP and Torrent traffic all work perfectly well. I'm on a 25+ Mbps cable internet line. Here's where it gets weird for me:
- if I bypass the router plain http video works flawlessly
- if I can switch to https the same YouTube video buffers flawlessly
- many other video sites (Netflix for example) buffer slowly for me too and I can't figure out how to force these to https as a workaround.
Has anyone else experienced issues like this with slow video buffering? I can't even begin to guess where a setting controlling this might be. Does anyone know what settings might cause or fix it? QOS is off and not configured. I tried briefly running QOS with no noticable difference.
TIA for any help or pointers.
