My home network currently has 75mbps down, 35mbps up (FIOS), and my cell provider (TMO) is hitting anywhere from 40 to 60mbps down, 30-40mbps up.
Using the latest Asus stock firmware (3.0.0.4.374_4561), and configuring the most-most simple PPTP VPN server, and using the stock Android VPN client, my DL speeds are anywhere from 20-30mbps. I've verified that my data endpoint (whatismyip.com) while connected to VPN is, in fact, my FIOS IP. So I'm certain that the tunnel is effective - and fast.
However, after flashing to the latest Shibby TomatoUSB (K26-N66 AIO 116), using the same client software and hardware, I'm maxing out at 1 to 2mbps down, and 3 to 4 mbps up. As soon as I disconnect the VPN, the cell jumps back to 40+mbps.
I've spent hours trying to work with OpenVPN, but I'm too green to understand even the most basic tutorials - they all assume the user has some basic understanding of scripting - which I clearly don't.
I would LOVE to continue using the K26 firmware, but not at the expense of the VPN speed. Is there a simple fix to this slow PPTP VPN issue with K26?
