I'm new to this, so not sure where to start…so here goes.
When I load up 1.28 AIO Shibby on my RT-N66U router, networking comes to a crawl. I read tons of posts on slow networking and possible fixes by changing various settings and none really worked. Even accessing the router GUI is very very slow. Additionally, I was having problems with my Nexus 5 obtaining an IP address, it would just hang trying to obtain an address. After about 3 to 4 attempts, the Nexus 5 would finally get an IP address, but I would lose it throughout the day and need to repeat the process. Scanned the neighborhood, have a clear channel on 6, so should not be interference. Also reloaded Shibby a couple times and made sure to clear NVRAM.
Okay, now for the workaround that seems to have resolved all my speed related issues, but I'm not sure why.
1. Turned off the 5G radio
2. Set the 2.4G radio to G only
3. Set the 2.4G radio to channel 6, 20mhz
That's it. Once I did that the network is fast and responsive again (so far). Even the Nexus 5 gets an IP address quickly and is maintaining a connection, unlike before. This kind of defeats the purpose of having a dual band router but it's working although throughput is lower.
Oh, it's the second router, returned the first thinking it was a router issue and the second brand new router does exactly the same thing with Shibby loaded. Works fine dual band with stock firmware.
I would like to know if there is anything else I can do to get this working with dual band. Maybe there is some 5G radio patch for Shibby Firmware that I missed?
Thanks for any suggestions,
