Just tried to upgrade my asus rt-ni16 from tomato to tomato usb to add vpn support. The upgrade seemed to go smoothly, but after the device reset itself I haven't been able to access the configuration screen or connect to the internet. I've tried doing a hard reset and it doesn't help. Tried setting my ip manually and still can't seem to connect. What do I try next?
Ok, trying recovery mode now.
I set my machine to manual ip 192.168.1.10, then put the router in recovery mode. I still can't connect to the router gui. Nor can I connect via ftp. I can now finally at least ping the router.
What step an I missing?
Connected using tftp instead of ftp. Then did the put command, it says it finished in 2.6 seconds. After a minute I rebooted. Now I'm stuck in recovery mode. I've tried rebooting and a couple 30,30,30 resets and it always comes back and goes into recovery mode.
30,30,30 does not work properly on Asus. On the back of the router there are two bittons. One is reset and the other is the "WPS" button. Hold the WPS button down and then connect the power cable and continue holding the WPS button for 15 seconds. Release the WPS button. Wait 3 minutes. Reboot and wait 3 more minutes. It takes the firmware longer to boot after an initial flash.
