Running Tomato 1.28 on a Linksys WRT54GL
Hi,
First I'd like to acknowledge that VPNs can be beastly to manage and troubleshoot, and are usually best resolved through an IT department or other group. That being said, I have a very specific concern I'd like some feedback on.
When I sign onto the VPN, and attempt to pull up a VPN-only website my web browser stalls. Specifically the loading bar stops about 1/4th of the way through. My first that is this is a DNS issue. In doing a traceroute, I see that the computer isn't able to complete the first jump from my computer to the router to this vpn-only site. If I try to connect to a non vpn-only website it works fine. So I powercycled my lynksis router and then reconnected to the VPN. I tried to access the VPN-only site, and it works fine.
Additionally when the VPN is active the VPN's DNS should be in use, so I'm trying to figure out why powercycling the router solves this. Since it does appear to be an issue with the DNS i'm wondering what I can do on my end to keep from having to powercycle the router. My first thought was to change the DNS on the router to Open DNS. Seems like that wouldn't do any good considering the router's DNS server doesn't appear in the traceroute listings, yet something is clearly preventing this mac from reaching the DNS server for the VPN.
I may be chasing my own tail on this, but I have to figure out how to stop from needing to powercycle my router to open these websites. Any advice or tips would be appreciated.
