My ISP will let me have up to 3 ips at one time, using DHCP. So, using additional hardware, I could use a second WAN ip by:
1) installing a hub/switch between the router and cable modem.
2) install a second nic on a machine and connect it to this hub.
3) this machine could DHCP a second WAN ip from the cable modem and route directly to the internet through the second nic interface.
(note, this is theoretical, I have not tested this configuration)
My question is, would it be possible to configure tomato to do this without the need for additional hardware?
I think I would need to have the router to DHCP a second WAN ip from the WAN up script and modify the routing table to route this ip to another ip on my LAN.
I would like to set it up this way so that tomato can track all of my monthly data usage with the ISP.
The machine needing the second WAN ip would be running Ubuntu.
