I am trying to use bandwidth limiting in conjunction with Optware/Squid. After going through OTRW installation and adding the Squid 3.1 package, everything works great. But as soon as I turn on the Bandwidth Limiting feature and run a speed test, the RT-N66U reboots.
Something also gets corrupted and the box continuously reboots until I do the WPS button trick to go back to default config.
I am just setting basic MAC-based rate limiting rules (e.g., 600kbps for limits and ceilings on downstream and upstream). Rules have to be MAC-based because the act of directing all requests to the squid proxy on the box appears to break all IP-based limiting. I have tried Shibby and Victek builds, and they do not crash the box…but their MAC-based rate limiting plain doesn't work. The MAC rate limiting does work on Toastman UNTIL it crashes.
I've tried practically every Toastman release I could find for the RT-N66U, from 1.28.0497 to 1.28.0502. I have the same issue with all.
Exact same setup works on RT-N16, but I can only get performance up to about 3 Mbps (on speed tests), and RT-N66U can deliver about 4X better performance by my estimate — so I am hoping to find a way to make this work.
Any suggestions on how to make this work? Or how to go about debugging it? Note I have tried both 64K and non-64K firmware versions (RT-N).
