I'm running the Toastman VLAN build, and am looking for some documentation or help to properly configure several vlans. Once I can do it, I'm willing to write/upload a tutorial on how to do it to offset any help I get! I saw a tutorial in using vlans to setup a wireless guest account, but didn't explain enough for me for my situation.
I have a WRT54GS in an office with DSL for WAN. The office PCs are wireless, but the secretary's PC and a NAS device are plugged into ports. Also have 2 printers on a switch coming off a port.
I'd like to put the printers in one printers vlan, all the other office devices in another office vlan with the wireless, then create a 3rd guest vlan off one port for guest access to the internet and printers, but no other office devices. The port for the guess access will be a 100 ft CAT5e cable to another WRT54 configured as the guest wireless access on another channel.
I'm familiar with Tomato and understand the concept of vlans, but am getting confused on how to configure the ports, LANS (br0-br3), vlans to do it all. If it's too complicated to let the guests use the printers, then I don't need it.
Below are my major questions: Thanks!
1) I can't figure out why one of the vlans has to be set to the WAN port.
2) I can't understand how to give multiple vlans access to the internet, unless it's by including the WAN port in multiple vlans and then I must enabling tagging on WAN port. (Will tagging break anything?)
3) I'm supposing I can use the LAN Access page to configure the office vlan and the guest vlan both, to access the printer vlan, so both groups can print, but the guests can't get to the office vlan. Is this correct?
4) I'm supposing I can use the LAN access page to allow the office vlan to access the guest vlan, but not the other way around. Is this correct?
