I have been trying to use VOIP on my Samsung Epic 4g Touch over wifi forever. I simply canNOT get rid of the latency. No matter what setting I try on the phone (I use GrooveIP or Talkatone). I finally decided it might be the router. I finally got a Cisco E2000 & installed Tomato. My understanding is that I have to setup QOS to get the VOIP to work well. Wel… I am lost. Sooooo many settings & all the tutorials I have found must be for an older tomato firmware as what I see in my settings do not match! Also, these tutorials aren't for using VOIP from a smartphone. Can anyone give explecit directions for my situation (I think I'll configure it by specific MAC address since when I'm on wifi, I am mostly using VOIP - I browse on other devices)?
QOS can only slow down the connections that you tell it to. It cannot speed any connections up. First test your phone with the router at defaults and QOS disabled. Test it with no other devices using the router. If the latency is not any better then QOS is not going to help you.
