I went from the original Buffalo WHRG54S firmware to Tomato and it seems the WiFi is not working as well now.
The router is in a upstairs bedroom, at the rear of the house and the kitchen is directly underneath that, with the dining room next to that and going into a through living room. In the dining/living room the signal's very weak and I can barely get reception on my Android phone or with the Wii. If I switch encryption from WPA2 to WPA I have more luck although the signal's still very weak.
I've tried increasing the signal strength from 24 to 40 then 70, using channel 1, 6 11 or Auto (a scan shows only three nearby access points all on 6) and pointing the aerial into the house rather than straight up, none of which seems to have made much if any difference.
Any tips on what I can try next? I think the aerial can be unscrewed and replaced. If so, what would be the best replacement to use?
