Hi all. This is my first post and thread in this forum. I have been lurking for a while getting answers for pretty standard issues but now I have a couple of questions I am not finding answers for in here. Here is my set-up to start with.
ISP provided ADSL router in bridge mode (so no involvement) to
Linksys WRT54GL v1.1 running Toastman 1.28 (can't remember full details, but it is the recommended build for the WRT54GL) - This is set-up as an access point and WDS via LAN to 3 more WRT54GL's running Toastman in AP only mode.
I have recently had a WRT54GL die (well, it's still going, but if it was a horse we'd shoot it) after nearly 5 years on constant use with a boosted signal cooking it away running in a non-cooled area of an apartment block in Bangkok. Basically put….a hero of a unit!
Anyway, I have set up the new router with Toastman and had the ISP modem replaced (it was pretty cooked too).
This set-up is serving a 10Mb (soon to be 13Mb) connection to 18 rooms with a 2 device limit per unit. I run access restriction on "disable all internet except" for the device MAC addresses and I run a DHCP providing static IPs for each device. I have a Robert Mytkowski generated script providing a low priority for torrents and I ask everybody to let me set them up a port for their torrent "to provide them with their own port for better torrenting". In reality this is to provide me with control over their torrent bandwidth if needed.
Question 1) I would like to set up the router so that the connection is shared equally with nobody allowed to hog all the bandwidth. My present Mytkowski script does some of this, but it demands you describe usage for all of the bandwidth. I would really like nobody to get more than say 60% of the bandwidth, even if they are the only person using the connection. My reasoning for this is people sometimes getting page serving delays if somebody else has started to stream an HD video from Youtube or the like.
Question 2) I have, in the past, attempted to set up remote access from my home to the main router using No-IP but never got the system to work. I was following the advice of an online forum (can't remember which, not this one). Can anybody point me in the right direction for a set of foolproof instructions.
Question 3) I have the PPPoE set for a connection interval of 30 seconds (keep alive), however I have had reports of the connection being down for longer than this and being re-established by power cycling without a delay. I can assume this means that the connection is not reconnecting after 30 seconds of "silence". What have I set wrong?
Sorry to dump a lot, I am trying to improve my knowledge by searching first, but often people ask the same question in a different manner and, therefore, I don't find their threads. If you know of a good thread to answer any of these questions then please just post the link.
Thank you in advance.
