Hi,
1) If I use a VOIP client that supports 802.1p, and my router doesn't, but the switch between my router and the internet does (which is where my bottlneck lies - my coworkers have their routers connected to the same switch), will I have the benefit of the 802.1p QOS? I am thinking of replacing the switch with one that supports 802.1p, but I prefer not to replace my router at the same time (the router is a tomato based wrt54g).
-- router 1 - lan1 for email and web
modem - interent-switch-- router 2 - lan1 for email and web
-- router 3, my wrt54g — voip client
— pc for email and web…
2. Alternatively, can I replace the switch with a wrt54g running tomato or tomatousb, and simple enable the QOS on tomato? I am not sure if the QOS stuff works when using as a switch since I think nothing would be connected to the wan port, I would connect the modem to one of the lan ports.
Thanks,
Doug
