Ok this is my first post on here so first post equals: extreme Noob so be patient, I understand quickly if you explain for a long time ;)
Please read on It can look long as I do write complete sentences :)
Hi, I am accustomed to forum life on a bunch of other subjects and I always find rude people that come in and ask away without any form and then once they got want they wanted… It's like having a neighbor coming in your kitchen asking for (salt, sugar etc…)all the time, it just bugs me.
So Once again Hi, I'm Chris and I'm a noob….
I just bought a brand new shiny Asus Rt-N12 C1 on witch I quickly installed Tomato for many reasons, mainly because I wanted a VPN client on a router as an end point for VPN services.
I read countless pages regarding all kinds of routers, Firmwares, vpns and networking in the past month or so and I finally made my choice based on "Price, availability, support and overhall experience from users"
I originally wanted the Rt-n16 but price and availability lead towards the little brother who seems to good of all intended purposes.
I currently Have a non "flashable" router serving as my primary it's a Dlink DIR-655 with dlink firmware 2.00 and it does its job quite well but the one thing I couldnt get out of him was a VPN client.
So what I would like to do his (yeah as I wrote in the title it's probably been covered a thousand time but I couldn't find a definitive answer that actually worked.) I'd like to keep my Dlink as my primary with its own network and ssid and wireless and hook to it My new TOMATO flavored rt-N12 (Tomato Firmware 1.28.0000 MIPSR2-102 K26 Max) and run My VPN client from it so I can acces it with my game platforms and be able to switch from it to the primary whit my laptop so If I need Vpn I access "ssidVPN" and if not I go to "ssidhome"
So I tried enabling DHCP on the dir655 whit static ip for rtn12 port different and similar subnets so on and so forth, I read so many pages in the last couple of days and had so many open tabs on my desktop that I honestly dont know red from green anymore and HELP would be greatly appreciated.
From what I gathered so far his that I need to run a cable from the 655's lan to the rtn12 wan so the clients from the rtn12 will access the whole network and the net and the 655's clients will access each other and the net. I dont need (want) to connect the routers wirelessly I prefer cable for this part.
Also any input (help ) on setting up my vpn client (witch is best (or quickest to switch) open or pptp )
Thanks a bunch to all those who read on and even more to those who will reply
Chris
