Does anyone know how I can use tomato 'out of line' or 'on a stick' so that if it fails, the traffic still flows from my office network out to the internet.
I've got a simple leased line fronted by a Netgear router at the de-mark point which then heads off into our internal network. I'm just curious to monitor network traffic without purchasing expensive 'on the router' software add-ons and wish to avoid the potential down-time that will ensue if I place my humble consumer-level Buffalo hardware (running tomato) in between/in serial the netgear and internal network with the risk that it could become a single point of failure and bring the who network down.
Is it possible to have it coming off the Netgear router, on a separate cable, so that it can monitor only the traffic flowing over it. What would I need to set the netgear to do to make this happen? What is this feature called? (essentiall sending a copy of all network traffic off to the Tomato box) and can Tomato handle it?
Thanks for all your help!
