Need a backup that works to restore to a new router of same make and model.
Currently impossible to do so.
Cherry picking is too slow and with 1200 lines in export.txt file difficult.
Tried script to backup all data, will not restore to new.
Backup and Restore fails even to same router in some cases.
If hardware is the same make and model this should be possible.

Even if it worked, it still wouldn't be safe and/or foolproof. One of the problems is that NVRAM contains router specific references! For example, the various MAC addresses of the LAN, WLAN, WAN, etc. And if you copy the backup of one router to another, you risk these being messed up. Doesn't mean you can't fix them in some cases, but it illustrates why it's a tricky and potentially risky operation. And after all, the whole point of doing this is to not have to worry about it.

Truth is, there is no perfectly safe, good means to do this other than hand-picking NVRAM variables for export/import. And although I've seen this done before, and it's "cute", I'd never recommend it to anyone else. Too tedious and error prone, and in the end, not worth the hassle/risk.

I think problem here is when you have multissd or vlan installed. Mine tested working well on 2 identical router w/out having any issue. I can interchange their saved configuration and still good restoration.

What good is backup if it does not restore ?
If a router goes down, a restore to new hardware is necessary in a hurry.
There has to be a foolproof way.
If physical hardware addresses are avoided it should work.
LAN WLAN WAN are all the same hardware names in the same make/model.
