I'm curious as to why on the LAN connection the subnet mask is limited to a minimum of 255.255.252.0. I need to go lower to say 255.255.0.0 but on the 1.28RT 099 AIO firmware for the WNR3500Lv2 it only allows a minimum subnet of 255.255.252.0.

because iptraffic counts data for each ip from subnet. When you will try use 16 bits netmask thats mean over 65000 lines (ips) in /proc/net/ipt_account. This is a lot of datas stored in RAM! This can makes router unstable.
22bit of netmask gives you 1022 hosts in subnet. You need more?!?
I saw that post after posting this post here. I guess i could reconfigure my network here were i planned on installing it to use the /22 netmask instead of what i'm using now but at the same time i gotta make sure i don't break my network in it's current form by making a change like that. My current netmask is a /8 which i know is big but at most i have maybe 30 total devices connected to the network.
