This question has been asked before in various iterations, but I have not found a thread with an answer, either here or in other forums.
I have an RT-N16 with Tomato (Teddy Bear, I believe - the last stable version from a few years ago). I went through the process of setting up a VPN for my home network, essentially following the guide on howtogeek.com (can't post link - sorry). I easily set up the VPN server, and my MacBook connects easily to my home network from outside.
I also have an account with Hide My Ass VPN. I would like to connect my home connection to the VPN at all times. I set up the Client service on Tomato using the guides on the HMA forums (can't post link - sorry). This setup also works well. With the client running, all of my home connections run through HMA.
So the problem: I would like to run both the client and the server at the same time. I would like all of my home connections to go through the VPN; I would also like, while I am out of the house, the ability to log in to my home network securely.
So far, this is not possible. Once the client is running, I can no longer access the home network. In fact, I can no longer access any of my remotely accessible services. I am assuming that this setup is possible. And it seems that this may be related to correct routing tables?
I am a bit of a noob when it comes to more advanced networking. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
