I have installed Tomato Firmware v1.28.9054 MIPSR2-beta K26 USB Ext and was wondering if this version can be setup to use IPv6? If so, where are the settings, if not can someone suggest a version of Tomato that can be installed on my RT-N16 that will do IPv6 and continue to support all of the same services and functions that my current version does?
Thanks
Bill,
I am not sure whose build you are using but the Toastman and Shibby builds (perhaps others) have IPv6 built right in. It is under Basic>IPv6. That being said, If you are on Comcast and trying to set up their native IPv6 you are out of luck until someone figures out how to make Tomato's DHCPv6-PD work with Comcast. In the mean time you can use the 6to4 Anycast option to obtain IPv6 websites. Eventually someone will get Tomato working with Comcast. ASFAIK, OpenWRT is the only current open source option for Comcasts IPv6 and it is very limited on the hardware that can run it. I am partial to Tomato because it has OpenVPN and 5 Ghz wireless, so I am using 6to4 Anycast until this gets fixed.
Lance, I am using the current version of TomatoUSB Kernel 2.6 (experimental) for MIPSR2 Routers Ext downloaded from this website. My ISP is Time Warner in the Southern California. Can you point me to the link where I can download the Toastman version that will allow me to test IPv6 but still allow me to use the USB ports on my router.
Thanks,
Bill
Sure, they are all here: http://www.4shared.com/dir/v1BuINP3/Toastman_Builds.html You will need to read the versions text to figure out which build you need/want. I would think one out of the RT branch. With Toastman builds, remember to enable DHCP if you need it, it is disabled by default.
The benefit is that the internet is switching over to it. Every ISP is compatible. You just need to setup an account on tunnelbroker.net which is a free ipv6 broker.
It looks like the new Toastman version, 1.28.7499, includes an update to Dnsmasq 2.61. From those changelogs ( code.google .com/p/rt-n56u/source/browse/trunk/user/dnsmasq/dnsmasq-2.61/CHANGELOG?r=f621870b65481dfeb763f0870d6aaf0143e1bd82 ), there are several IPv6-related updates:
"Add ra-names, ra-stateless and slaac keywords for DHCPv6. Dnsmasq can now synthesise AAAA records for dual-stack hosts which get IPv6 addresses via SLAAC. It is also now possible to use SLAAC and stateless DHCPv6, and to tell clients to use SLAAC addresses as well as DHCP ones."
"Explicity send DHCPv6 replies to the correct port, instead of relying on clients to send requests with the correct source address, since at least one client in the wild gets this wrong."
And so forth. Maybe this update will permit proper native IPv6 on Comcast? Anyone want to try the new version and report back?
Ryan,
I played with it this weekend and have been unable to make it work.
Lance, I hate to be a pain but I really don’t know which one of the listed firmware’s to download, any chance you could point me to the specific one that will work? Also once I have the Toastman version downloaded can I use the current Tomato USB firmware gui to install Toastman or do I need to use the ASUS utility that I used to originally install Tomato USB?
Yes you can use the TomatoUSB GUI to upgrade. If you are using ext then I would keep using that. You need to state your router but follow the link Lance posted and pick the correct main directory.
