I am in great need of a tutorial on how I go about putting the custom firmware on my Linksys E3000, from my current research I can tell Shibby seems to have the most feature rich variation of Tomato, which version of Shibby do I need though? I am really a complete noob when it comes to this kind of stuff so all help would be greatly appreciated.
Here is a link to his latest build for that router. err, I stll can't post links so just Google "build5x-092-EN" with the quotes and it should be the first link.
You will need to confirm but I believe you can flash this strait from the linksys firmware on your particular model? Maybe/maybe not I'm not real sure, but I do remember someone doing just that in the past.
After it's done flashing. Be sure to give it 5 or more minutes to rebuild everything. Once times up and you're able to access the Web gui, you need to clear the nvram and you should be good to go.
My directions may be wrong so you'll need to check yourself to be sure.
When I google that I find the build, but there are four different versions listed with E3000, which exact one do I need? Also, how do I clear my nvram?
Well you can choose any of them as long as it has your model in the name, but if you want something like VPN or the BT Gui and not both you can select one of those builds or the big one for all of it. That's just personal preference.
As for clearing the nvram after you flash tomato.
"Go to Administration/Configuration and select "Erase all NVRAM…" After that you must give your router plenty of time to rebuild. So wait no less than 5 minutes before tinkering around.
Thanks mate, double checked, you can deffo directly flash from stock firmware so all is ago.
