Machine setup -
2 computers - Machine # 1 - running opensuse12.1 kde 4.7
- Machine # 2 - running windows 7 home premium
DSL internet connection thru TPLink TD-8616 modem Firmware Version:4.0.0 Build 090508 Rel.24829
Asus RT-N16 router with Tomatousb firmware 1.28
Machine # 1 hosts a p2p chat room in [Winmx] and within that link is connected to 4 or 5 other chatrooms [secondary][ as well as doing searching on a browser]
Machine # 2 does searching on browser and is commonly[but not always] connected to uTorrent program.
Problem- When these machines are connected to internet thru asus router, machine # 1 continually loses connections to secondary chatrooms and at times the hosted chatroom, but is always able to browse internet. All ports necessary are forwarded in router. The router firewall is on but the opensuse firewall is off. [connection drop measured in minutes]
When connected directly to TPLink modem [only this machine] Machine #1 rarely drops connection to secondary chatrooms. [connection drop measured in weeks before reboot is necessary]
I have tried the original asus firmware and also, Oleg's firmware, but the results are the same.
Could this be a shared bandwidth problem?
Could anyone suggest how to stabilize this problem?
Or where to start looking to correct this problem.
I am also posting this at a winmx forum for help.
