Hello everybody, recently I was thinking weather it would be possible to add usb ports to my WRT54GL router. The only place I found it was on a web page belonging to Galaad, described in french and I was very excited. Just look for "le petit monde de galaad Linksys wrt54gl" in google or yahoo. You'll find it quickly.
I tried it using OpenWRT but my USB ports weren't detected using the OpenWRT USB modules, so he told me he had used a custom version of OpenWRT that he built including the usb-detection features. So, that's when I thought about TomatoUSB (which has native support for usb) and I installed it (the 2.4 kernel Std version).
I realized it was an extraordinary firmware, very fast, which boosted my network transfer speed by 50% and above all made my router to detect the 2 undocumented usb ports.
I want to thank Galaad again here for this brilliant contribution to the world of WRT54GL mods. I have built everything exactly as he described it except the 2 22ohms resistors which it seems that are not necessary for this particular router model.
I guess this mod makes the sd-card mod absolete, leaving the leds to be used for other purposes (like powering up a server) and hope this idea will be usefull to many WRT54GL owners. Just go to Galaad's site and use google to translate it if needed.
