i assure you i have been searching and reading this website as best i can. i just feel as though i have information overload since i have no real linux experience and just getting started with 3rd party firmware. very quickly, here is my setup.
router: asus nt-r16
firmware: shibby Tomato Firmware 1.28.0000 MIPSR2-088 K26 USB AIO
HD: wd 2 terabyte my book - formatted in ext3
primarily i want to do some occasional computer backups onto the drive (photos). i would be running software from my laptop (windows) to somehow send the files over automatically as necessary. it isnt clear to me that the best route for something like this would be enabling "file sharing" or setting up "CIFS" or an "NFS server". help?
secondarily i thought it might be cool to set up bittorrent on it, have it download and then share that directory in a way that my XBOX 360 can see it and stream off it. my research indicated that i should be using a shibby build for this, and enabling media server. correct?
one further question about the above: i plan to spend time tomorrow reading up on basic linux to get an understanding. if i had gone with "official tomato usb" is a bit torrent client something i could have installed myself via shell (eg… is this what optware is for)?
again, i assure you i am self sufficient enough to do the grunt work myself… someone just please take the moment to give me some guidance so i can learn PROPERLY.
thank you kindly. :)
