Looking for some help on my config. I'm running two Asus RT-N16's with a Hawking Hi-Gain 14dBi Outdoor Directional Antenna attached to each router which are pointing to each other 2 blocks away. Both routers are setup as Access Point+WDS. I'm using this for backups at night to a remote site. Both Asus routers are running Tomato USB. The problem I'm having is unless there is a constant ping the connection drops and the only way to restore the connection is to do a wireless survey on both ends. I would like to be able to have the connection reestablished automatically if possible and I would like to find out what causes the connection to drop unless there is a constant ping going all the time.
Both routers are new within the last week. One is in a closet with some switches and phone equipment and the other is in an electrical room. Both routers show interference level as acceptable. Both routers are running WPA Personal (PSK) + TKIP / AES, Channel 5, Channel Width 20 MHz.
Any ideas or help would be appreciated.
