I just installed the latest version of toastman on my asus RT-N16 and have a couple of questions regarding what I would like to do.
I'm setting it up to suit a motel/student accomodation. May have up to max 20-30 people connected.
I want any new users to be able to connect via dhcp, so i can give them an IP and also attain the Mac address and Host name.
I then want to statically assign that IP to their MAC address so that if they change their network settings and choose themself a static IP, it will not let them have access untill they set there network settings back to dhcp, which the router then controls/monitors.
I am unsure of how to go about this as I have tried saving my iphone as a static IP in the router and it still has access when i give it a different ip address on the phone.
Can someone confirm if this thinking is correct… I need to ignore dhcp requests from unknown devices, but I also need to allow new (unknown) devices to connect so the router gives them an IP, then i can save their details and make them static.. Doesn't that thinking contradict its self? Or am i missing something?
I have no doubt im doing something wrong, just unsure of what to settings i need to make this work.
Also I want to be able to allow each user to have 10gb per month, then throttle their speed right down.
Any recommended settings for this?
Thanks heaps, your help will be greatly appreciated
