I recently bought a DrayTek Vigor120 modem and it syncs faster than any other modem I've used on my line. However, in bridged mode, it doesn't report connection uptime, only device uptime. That being the case, I'd like to use Tomato's status page to monitor my connection. Tomato is running on my Asus RT-N12 router.
However, by default, Tomato does not detect simulated ADSL dropouts (by me removing the line cable) unless the cable is removed for at least three minutes. I wanted it to detect all dropouts, even brief ones, so I ran nvram set pppoe_lei=5. This has resulted in Tomato detecting dropouts within seconds of the modem's sync light goes out, which is what I wanted. I do notice now that the WAN light on the router and the ADSL light on the modem blink every 5 seconds…I hope this isn't using bandwidth to my internet provider.
However, the problem is that since reducing pppoe_lei, it takes some two minutes for the router to re-establish the PPPoE connection after the modem has resynced. With the default pppoe_lei value, it only took 25 seconds. Is there a setting I can change to force Tomato to reconnect faster? I tried nvram set pppoe_lef=2, but that made no difference. I also played with ppp_redialperiod and the check interval setting, but neither has reduced the time it takes to re-establish the PPPoE connection.
Any ideas? Thanks.
