My E4200 is very stable with the factory firmware, but the disk performance is not great. I don't expect a router that's talking to an enclosure to outperform my old FreeNAS 7 box, but I just don't want to run so many devices anymore. I've ran an Untangle server that I switched to pfSense, and also a FreeNAS server. I'm in IT for a living and I just got tired of dealing with things at home. I grabbed the E4200 when it was on sale, and I've been happy with everything BUT disk performance. I was getting 55 Megs through to my FreeNAS box, and realistically expected to get 10 through to a RTR running the same drive in an enclosure. The disk performance of the RTR is so bad, I ran FreeNAS on a laptop to check throughput to the enclosure hooked up via USB to see if it was a limitation of the enclosure and USB, but there I was getting 15-20 through. So, my question is, what are you guys getting up/down to your routers (as far as disk performance, obviously), and what build are you running? How is your disk configured? I'm getting to the point where I want to get a MiniITX board and just run another FreeNAS server, but I really don't see why this is such an issue.
