Look at what gets stored in the route cache
ip route show cache
it's info about every connection, not every static route
The Linux kernel code in "/linux/net/ipv4/route.c" is pretty ancient, and in K2.4 touched by speedmod - but not much changed in current mainstream Linux kernel - so wonder if its worth try to regularize the code vs standard Linux in this area - of course need compatible changes to many related code and header files?
