I flashed this onto my Linksys E3000
I am using a 1.5 TB Western Digital External Hard Drive.
I am having the following problems:
1) Sometimes when I try to login via telnet (or ssh, doesn't matter) as root. I login successfully, but it doesn't seem to work correctly. This happens:
[root@E3000 root]$ cd / [root@E3000 /]$ ls . [root@E3000 /]$
The result of ls is "." no matter what I do. Even stranger is that if I cd to /jffs/STORAGE I can get there successfully, or I can cat /etc/fstab, but ls still returns ".". It happens even after a reboot.
However, if I go into the web gui as root and unmount the usb drive, I can immediately telnet in as root and I get this:
root@E3000:/tmp/home/root# cd / root@E3000:/# ls bin cifs1 dev home lib nas proc root sys usr www bkp cifs2 etc jffs mnt opt rom sbin tmp var
When I go back into the GUI and mount the drive, and telnet back in, once again I login but don't have real root access.
I want the router to mount the drive using some specific options that I hope will speed it up a little. I put a script called mount.autorun in /jffs (which I enabled, of course)
swapon -a mount -a
& here is a copy of my /etc/fstab (which I committed to nvram)
LABEL=SWAP none swap sw 0 0 LABEL=OPTWARE /opt ext3 defaults,noatime,data=writeback 1 1 LABEL=STORAGE /jffs/STORAGE ext3 defaults,noatime,nodiratime,data=writeback 1 1
2) File transfers can be extremely slow.
The transfer, however I do it (nfs, ftp) starts decently quickly but after a few minutes it slows to a crawl. The top speed is just short of 100 Mbps, which is a bit odd since I have a gigabit wired ethernet connection (Cat5e cable, but still…) It can maintain the 100 Mbps for a minute or two, then it basically stops, with occasional blips of a few MB/s; sometimes it goes back to ~9.9 MB/s for a while, but then it drops back again, and eventually stays there, uploading a few hundred KB in blips before just stopping. The External HD's 'in use' light keeps flashing, but I can't understand how it would be so slow. It's not this crappy when I connect it directly to my computer.
Please help me with these two problems.
