I am looking to improve my e3000 wireless transfer speed and also determine how to properly measure the transfer rate. My e3000 currently has Tomato USB 1.28.9006 MIPSR2_RAF K26 USB VPN-NOCAT running on it. I am also using an e1000 (running ddwrt) on the other side of the house to provide a stronger Wifi signal. The routers are bridged together via wifi. The routers have their own SSIDs but the e3000 is the primary device and handles all DHCP and modem interfacing.
I would like to be able to stream HD video from my USB HD drive-connected to the e3000 via USB. However, my current transfer speeds seem to make this impossible. Connecting via my Transformer Prime, I am not able to stream video without waiting a while to start the feed and then pausing every couple minutes-I assume to buffer. My prime often reports speeds as slow as 5Mbps and sometimes as high as 65Mbps second; however, I am not sure how reliable those measurements are and I that is the reason for the second part of my question—how do I properly measure my transfer speed.
I am hoping some people could tell me how to maximize my transfer speed (mainly for the 2.4ghz spectrum—i don't have many 5ghz devices). I believe all of my devices are N-rated; however, it would be nice allow G for the time being and at least be able to max out G speeds.
Any help would be appreciated.
