I sure could use some help on this one. My ASUS router keeps resetting to the default password and is leaving my wireless and router open to the world. It happens sometime during a 24 hour period after setting the passwords. This has been happening for the past week and I am wondering if there is a setting that needed to be checked. I have changed the password several times but it keeps resetting. Has anyone had this issue before with their ASUS RTN16 router and tomato? BTW I have two ASUS routers one as a backup in case of hardware failure on one of them. I swapped out to the other one and both are doing the same thing on the resetting of the password. Stumped or have I possibly been hacked?
After setting the password did you verify that the new password was in effect? I am asking this because for some reason I have had problems setting a new password whenever I use MS IE browser to configure Tomato (so now I only use Firefox in configuring Tomato).
Also, you should try "erase NVRAM thoroughly" option (on Admin -> Configuration menu page) if you have not already done that after you switched to Tomato from another firmware.
Yes I was using IE. I will try with firefox. I have erased NVRAM when I first installed. One question when I log out if tge router the login box appears and on the webpage states use OK/Login to erase files in cache for IE and Firefox. Could that be an issue also?
The login popup menu and the accompanying instruction page you saw are the expected normal behavior.
I'd say follow the instruction, then log on again to see if your new password sticks.
