Been an avid fan of tomato/tomato usb since it first came out, use it over all the other third party firmwares available.
I have a unique situation where I need to have VPN access through PPTP (the remote site is behind an existing firewall and they will not punch holes in their firewall to accommodate). I have loaded tomato usb vpn on my asus wl520gu and setup the WAN for PPTP, connect to our server and it works flawless to connect our controller back to head office.
My only issue is I don't need the vpn connection active all the time and rather just have the vpn connected when we need to do an update. We will be installing a cheap pc on site also with logmein so if need be we can log into the router and establish a VPN connection.
My question is:
What is the default "Keep Alive" check in interval I can put in the router? Can it be set for days? So if I disconnect say every 15 days or so it will reconnect on the vpn and we can force updates at that time?
I also tried switching the vpn connection type to "Connect on Demand" and left the default 5 minute time out, but when I go to status and click on connect, it will not connect to the PPTP server, it just times out and says "Connecting". I can only seem to establish a connection when its on "keep alive"
Keep up the great work.
