I've been very happy with the Build 54 VPN.
There's A LOT of new stuff going on—especially with the Toastman builds.
I think they're doing good stuff with the mods…They just move too fast for me ;)
I am using Tomato Firmware v1.28.7486 MIPSR2-Toastman-RT K26 USB VPN for 4 months. Everything seems fine, except shutdown script is not working.
The latest Shibby mod has been running for a month on my N16 without needing a restart. Don't waste your time with the "stable" build on this website. Use the Shibby mod and you'll never have a problem.
I have just loaded this version
Tomato Firmware v1.28.9054 MIPSR2-beta K26 USB vpn3.6
onto my N16.
it all seems to be working fine but there are no menu options for Bandwidth limiter under the QoS menu. I have seen screen shots where there is a menu option called "B/W Limiter" and in that option you can set upload and download limit per ip address. infact the menu option I am referring to is listed on this page tomatousb.org / tut:using-tomato-s-qos-system ( i had to break the link to be able to post it)
do I have the wrong version?
I do have a menu option under QoS called "Classification" and I have set rules here to limit the upload/download but these are not having any effect.
any advice would be great. my goal is to limit the upload/download on one ip address or mac
Stability is relative. Some version works fine on some machine, but the same version may have problem on other. That is my conclusion, after 14 month, since i have RT-N16, and i use TomatoUSB and 3 years since i use Tomato on other routers (Linksys WRT54GL, WRT320N).
Now, on RT-N16 i use many version of Tomato from Toastman and Shibby and they have many version that works fine on my router.
Most stable from Toastman for me was "tomato-K26USB-1.28.7483.2MIPSR2-Toastman-RT-VPN" and "tomato-K26USB-1.28.7486.4MIPSR2-Toastman-RT-VPN" and you can download from here: http://www.4shared.com/dir/v1BuINP3/Toastman_Builds.html#dir=79224825
At this time i use a version from Shibby and i'm very happy with it "tomato-K26USB-1.28.905xRAF-EN-MIPSR2-079V-VPN.trx" and you can download from here:
No, is not a wrong version, but this version hasn't Bandwith Limiter. For Bandwith Limiter you have to load a version from Shibby or Toastman.
@Jason and chilit: WARNING!
In Toastman's versions DHCP IS DISABLED BY DEFAULT. DON'T FORGET TO TURN IT ON IF YOU NEED IT.
Before upgrade read the "READ THIS FIRST.txt" file. IT IS IMPORTANT
CLEAR NVRAM BEFORE and AFTER you upgrade!
RT-N66U user / Shibby mod
i installed one of toastmans recent versions and Bandwidth limiter is working great. thanks for that
by turning on DHCP do you just mean to tick the box "DHCP server" and set the ip range.
this network management thing is all new to me really, but I think tomato is a really helpful tool
"by turning on DHCP do you just mean to tick the box "DHCP server" and set the ip range."
Well, this is the problem with uncontrolled multiple simultaneous development/tweaking. Lots of different people working on functions & features that interest them, all un-coordinated with each other, with nobody being the master coordinator and pulling changes back into a One True mainline version.
I don't see this changing/improving unless/until TeddyBear comes back.
Indeed - which is unfortunate since it's been exactly 1 year (yesterday) since the last release and still no news of Teddy. Hope he's doing okay…
There was some activity in the repo (which is what I'm using on my router) but that's about it.
