I started off with TomatoUSB. Backed up my config. I have many custom settings seeing as how this has been in place for 4 months now. Then upgraded to TomatoUSB+VPN and now every single time I boot Windows 7 prompts me because it has detected a "new network". Anybody eslse having this problem?
You don't mention which firmware you're using. It's recommended at this time to use a tomatoUSB mod (Toastman, Victek, Shibby) instead of the vanilla tomatoUSB for the Asus rt-n16. The vanilla version hasn't been updated for a while, and may have issues with your router.
I do remember having this same issue myself with one of the mods, but it was fixed by updating to the newest release of that mod when it became available.
If you backed up your config, and then restored it through the router interface on a different firmware, this could be the issue. The backup configuration files I believe aren't made to work cross different firmware types. I would backup my config by hand, clear the nvram, and restore the config by hand, when changing firmware types. I would only use the built in backup when I have not flashed to a new firmware.
I had this same problem when I first downloaded. What you do is go to administration and then scripts and under WAN UP put this in it:
#Area connection bug fix
ifconfig `nvram get lan_ifname` hw ether `nvram get lan_hwaddr`
I should probably try one of those mods. Right now my router is only getting half the download speed for some reason. It was fine until about a month ago. No idea as I haven't even touch the configuration.
My ISP has a speedtest on their site and I get the advertised speeds to that through the router. However everything else - downloads streams torrents etc all are capped to half. If I plug in straight to the modem I get full speed. QOS is disabled so I have no idea…
Use the latest Shibby mod. Seems to be the most stable on the RT-N16. Haven't had an issue since I installed it 2 weeks ago.
It is important to remember that you MUST clear NVRAM before AND after you upgrade to a mod.
I have the same problem with my Asus rt-n16 running v1.28.9051 MIPSR2-beta22 K26 USB vpn3.6
Where do you get those mods? All I see is the 4shared development page in the downloads area but kind of confusing to figure it out.
I have a RT-N16 and VPN and USB is a must. So it has to have k26 mipsr2 vpn and usb.
I should be using the latest GIT compiles right?
Whats the difference between rt-git and rt-n-git ?
Nevermind, I am pretty sure the RT-N mod is for dual band.
Kind of confusing when the router is called RT-N16 =o
