I have some internal apps that I want to get easy remote access to occasionally. For example, my pe
rsonal Wiki, mythtv web scheduler, www view of file server, etc. I don't want to leave the ports w
ide open to the Internet, but I also don't want to implement a full VPN solution.
So, I'm wondering if a middleground solution exists.
What I'm thinkin of is a basic https authentication page on the router, so I connect to that and aut
henticate. Once I've authenticated, it opens my chosen ports so that they are accessible from the I
P address I have authenticated from. The enabled port forwarding then allows me access to my internal web apps. The access could time out after X hours, or an inactivity time.
Does something like this already exist?
