apologies for asking Newbie questions, but I am trying to set this up on the Asus-RT-N16 router.
Here are the details. I picked up an seagate external hdd which is plug into a usb port on the router.
When i go the setup page on the router, I see that it is mounted under '/tmp/mnt/seagate'
Now i go to the media server setup page.
I select 'custom' so that the db file can be set up in the hdd. The path is: /mnt/seagate/dlna_db
Next i do not check the 2 scan options.
Question 1: since these are not checked, how does the 'media server' know what files i have in the hdd upon start-up, is it because it will scan the first time when i set this up?
Question 2: when i add more files to the external hdd, does the system know to only add these new files or will it re-scan all again?
tivo & strictly adhering to DLNA ==> i left those unchecked.
Media Directories. ==> this is another area where i have questions.
history: so all my video files are stored in the following format. folder name/.mkv file
i.e. = I have created a 'dumb and dumber' folder, then inside this folder I have the physical file. I've done this for all my video files.
So when it comes to the media directories.
i removed the default /mnt ==> 'all media files'
i add the following: /mnt/seagate/video
Question : how will the above know where my video files are? if i did the above, does that mean that I will need to physically create a 'video' folder and then move all my folders to this folder in order for the scan to pick this up..
question: given the way that my files are set up (folder/file name); can I just set up the media directories as '/mnt/seagate' ; since my folders are all under 'seagate'
last question: in some of my folders, i have a couple of files in them, will the scan be smart enough to pick up in the same format, meaning, pick up the folder and if i drill into the folder see the couple of files that is currently there?
apologies for such 'newbie' questions.
