I am in the process of adding a second (actually third) TomatoUSB router in my network to improve security considering the servers that I am running. I have a router behind a router effectively creating a DMZ between the two and all PSs and NAS on the second LAN. On the same PC if I run www.speedtest.net directly connected to just the first router my latency is 15ms, when I connect the same PC to the 520GU that is directly connected to the first router (a router behind a router) my latency is 35ms. I turned off QoS and anything else on both routers to make sure there wasn't anything else going on that could be the cause of the troubles. Can someone explain this 20ms gap to me and give suggestions? Is it possible that the 520GU is just a crappy piece of hardware and I should upgrade to something with more pep? 20ms is pretty steep of a delay.
All thoughts welcome. I am very curious if there is something obvious that I am missing.
