I have a small "issue" here, hoped any of you guys are familiar with it.
I have a Linksys E3000 running Tomato USB 1.28 (Beta 54). At times, when WiFi (2.4GHz only) is enabled and yet no WiFi device is connected (there are absolutely no client wireless devices in viable proximity to the router — no phones, no tables, no laptops, etc.), still I get wireless activity. That is, once in every few seconds, should one look at the log, they'd see a sporadic TX of 0.86kbit/s (sometimes, slightly more). I know for certain that the AP is not being scanned for, if this is relevant. Also, the SSID broadcast is always disabled.
My question is — does this traffic stands for Beacon packets, or perhaps, for something else? — Increasing the Beacon Interval radically (from 100ms to 65,535ms) doesn't seem to have any effect on the frequency on these broadcasts.
Is there a way to make the router sit completely idly by until a connection is initiated by a remote device, which is aware of the name of the AP (the SSID broadcast is disabled in my scenario)?
Thank you all very much for your time,
