I am new to Tomato and am looking for advice. I am using dd-wrt on my other routers, so while I am not an expert, I have a good working knowledge of networks and working with network devices.
Hardware: Linksys e3000
I have a NAS device which I use for media storage. I am looking to use the linksys router as a media server. I am considering hardwairing the NAS server to the e3000 and have the e3000 'serve' the media files to media players.
In looking for the appropriate Tomato firmware, I came across the 1.28.9054 build from the 'Download Tomato USB' link. I could not find a read me file file with instructions to install the firware and give some basic direction on getting the firmware up and running. The FAQ mentioned that the instructions are in the RAR file. All I see is the bin and CHANGELOG file.
So to start, here are a few questions.
1. Is there any reference material that I should read before installing Tomato on a e3000 with stock firmware.
2. Any additional 'packages' (ipkg, optware etc) that would be required to get the media server running.
3. Will the media server 'server' content from the NAS device, or will it only support a USB connected device.
4. Will I need a USB drive for the library information? I do have sufficient room on the NAS device for the library.
I am sure these have been asked (and answered) in the past. If someone can point me in the right direction, that would be great.
