I see that the extras tarball includes chat and usb_modeswitch. I've got a working ppp configuration and chat script for my 3G modem on a PC running Debian. Has anyone got the stock Tomato USB to work with a modem (if so, what should I set WAN connection type to, and where do I put the pppd invocation?) or are people just using the digiland mod?
only tomato dualwan mod has implemented 3G modem support in tomato.
there is my tutorial, howto run huawei modem on tomato
you can try use google translator (from Polish).
Thanks, I got it running manually. In your script you run insmod usbserial, where are you putting this module? My hardware is Asus WL520GU (4MB flash) running the kernel 2.6 version so I put the extras on a USB flash disk connected to a hub with the modem. If I put the script in hotplug, I fear that the modem will be initialized when the USB flash disk is not mounted yet.
One, can I officially make my request that 3g modem support be added to the GUI and VPN & EXT packages of TomatoUSB?
Second, which Huawei models are supported? It would seem that the two models available to me are E261 and, the older, E1750. Both are WCMDA (UMTS) USB 3G modems. As well there is the new E353 (21M HSPA+) device.
Is there a supported device list? Is it support in ACM that is necessary? I'd like to make sure whatever I buy will be supported.
I do also wish that 3g modem support be added to the GUI of your tomato firmware. Also, don't restrict your firmware size for AIO buildtype limited to 8MB, too small I think.
+1 for USB 3G modem support in GUI. I would love to see. I'm using a Huawei E173 currently on a TP-Link TL-MR3420 but would love to ditch it and be able to use with my Linksys E3000
