I just purchased an ASUS RT-N16 and from reviews and suggestions I've read I thought I'd install the TomatoUSB firmware, and some optware, but I'm having some problems, and I think it's because I just don't know what I'm doing.
I've been able to get TomatoUSB running on the router, and I'm excited about that. However, I'm having trouble understanding how to get optware installed on the router, or on a USB drive connected to the router.
First off, I've been working along with this guide: How to Set Up NAS, Optware, etc for TOTAL NOOBS and I don't think this guide was geared totally for noobs. For one, it took me the longest time to figure out how to connect to the router via telnet (I tried ssh but have NO idea why I can't connect via that).
Basically, so far I've been able to format my USB drive to linux-swap and ext2 (it's a pen drive I'm testing this all out on) as the previously mentioned tutorial explains. And I've gotten the swap partition and the ext2 partition to mount in Tomato.
But when it comes to installing optware (I'm mainly interested in getting torrents running 24/7 using Transmission or something like it) I'm pretty much dead in the water. I don't really understand what exactly I'm supposed to do from the instructions on the tutorial I mentioned earlier, and other forums or threads I've looked at haven't help a whole lot either.
Also, once I DO get Transmission or some other BT client installed, how do I manage torrents with it? Is there any kind of GUI for it, or is it all command line stuff?
If it's not apparent already, I'm not a linux user, and I only have very rudimentary command line skills.
I'm on a MacBook Pro, running OS X 10.6.7. I do have VirtualBox running, and used WinXP from it to install the firmware using the ASUS Firmware Restore tool, and I also just installed Ubuntu 11.04 in VirtualBox as well, but have no real idea how to use it either.
Any help or forum posts anyone could provide me with would be wonderful! Thanks!
