I downloaded the git, and examined it. I had a naive belief that a build numbered 9054 - quite where manveru got pree9055 from, I do not know - might be more recent than 7820, but that is the latest Toastman offering. Where did 7820 come from, and how does it relate to other builds?
Well, think of it like this. There are around six or eight people making builds. None of them necessarily knows what the others are doing. Trying to issue numbers in sequence would therefore be difficult and would lead to a "war" in which only the last numbered build would be given any credibility. Since the versions are quite different in features/content, this would be extremely confusing in any case.
So, each person uses his own series of numbers, which he (hopefully) chooses so as to be unique. Similarly, automobile manufacturers use release numbers, but nobody seems to have a problem since they know that a Honda is not a Toyota or a Volvo.
So the answer is - 7820 doesn't relate to other people's builds at all. It relates only to mine and bears the name Toastman v 7820. TomatoUSB will bear that name, Victek's release is RAF v "xxxx" and so on. The file date and the information in the "about" page gives the compile date.
Notes are included by most modders on their download site explaining briefly what's inside and what's new or different about that build. The GIT is the place to find out *exactly* what is inside, but that requires more work.
9054 was the last "release" from USBmod/RT but that was several months ago. The next one will most likely be 9055. Manveru therefore used "pre-9055" to indicate it's somewhere in the middle. Not so very useful I think, because the next one would have to be "post pre-9055" ?? No, I believe a version number is better.
Currently, on 9th May 2011, 7820 (which is the MIPSR1 series I use) and 7469 (MIPSR2) are probably the most recent posted builds from anyone, as far as I know. That may change in the next 10 minutes though!
