Hello, trying out tomato for the first time, coming from dd-wrt.
Having a rough go of setting up QoS. Mainly, I can't figure out what the heck any of the boxes mean.
Where is the documentation for tomato? I can't seem to find any, or at least anything useful. I tried looking at the GUI reference doc at http://tomatousb.org/doc:reference but it's empty. (All it has in it is "yup, tomato does qos.")
I have puzzled through enough of the QoS stuff so that traffic is at least being classified correctly… traffic I want to go slowly is classified as lowest when I click on QoS details. So I've gotten that far.
Here's what I'm trying to do…
My default traffic class is medium.
I want traffic that's classified as lowest (nntp, torrents) to only take up as much bandwidth as they can while getting out of the way of everything else. But when everything else is not being used, I want the lowest traffic to use up all of the line.
With DD-WRT, I simply classified the traffic, and let fly. If I had an nntp download going and I wanted to download microsoft updates, the nntp traffic would decrease to zero and the microsoft updates would fly across the link, exactly as desired.
With tomato, I can't get this to happen. The nntp traffic continues to fly in at maximum speed, as though QoS isn't on at all.
I'm pretty sure that my configuration is wrong, but since I can't find the documentation on what the boxes MEAN I can't really debug it. HELP!!
For example, next to highest class there are two boxes, both marked in percentages. What ARE these percentages, what do they refer to?
I've read toastman's soliloquy on QoS in tomato, and it makes sense, but it's a high level view and doesn't go into what boxes are what, and what they mean.
Here are my current QoS settings, just for giggles… http://i.imgur.com/yDaWo.png
