I have Tomato 1.28 installed (router D-Link320).
Here it is the list of problems:
1) Download speed is very slow ~2Mb/s. Is it possible to speed up it some how (mostly for SAMBA)?
2) When I transfer big file (video file ~2Gb) over SAMBA everything looks fine but when I open it is corrupted some where at the middle. But when play this video file through SAMBA's shared folder it plays without any problem.
3) When I copy the same video file through the FTP (FAR manager) it transfers 1.6Gb only and finish transfer like everything is ok.

P.S. video file locates on ext3 partition.

What is "Tomato 1.28"? There are many, MANY flavors of TomatoUSB based on this with various build versions (the latest public one is build 54).

I'm using firmware tomato-NDUSB-1.28_DANtes_051210.trx under D-link320

use FileZilla (free) and make transfer settings to 10 maximum number of connections. That way your downloading will almost double. No problem with size, pause and resume file download connection.

Also I found in one site that problem could be in net port configuration.

They suggest to use line like:
ifconfig br0 media 100baseTX mediaopt full-duplex

but I have an error message:
ifconfig: bad address 'media'

With ifconfig command I have following message

There is no mention of current speed at all.

I do daily drama torrent downloading and found no problem with samba transfering error.

For transfer, you have 3 options available:
1.) use samba sharing
2.) use ftp software like filezilla for ftp connection (set 10 connection)
3.) use filezilla for sftp connection (set 10 connection)
note: u need to install sftp package (see tutorial section)

I normally use #2 to extract data from tomato usb to my computer hd.

Also, I discover that transfer speed will get better if you connect via ethernet port instead of wireless.

Now, I have new connection method. Im using my router as VPN server also and my win7 connect to it. I can run BT and make completed file transfer to my win7 using filezilla FTP mode. Speed transfer under VPN mode is slower, mine is like less than 500kbps. No problem ecountered in pausing and resuming downloads so far.

Tomato speed can be viewed on bandwidth menu for both receive and transfer mode.

My advise, dont worry too much about transfer speed. Pause it if you want to stop transferring and resume next available time by using FTP software.

With GetRight downloader I have 2,8Mb/s. It's better then previous result of 2Mb/s but still slow. I saw in some of the forum an inference that it happens due to the slow CPU of 200Mhz on D-Link320.
But as for me it's not look correct. Many years ago I used Pentium PC with 166Mhz of CPU lower RAM but I didn't have such a problem with speed.

Even a Pentium 166mhz is faster than the cpus on these routers. Heck, I bet a Commodore 64 is (was) faster.

Look, these are designed as cheap routers, not as small computers. The fact that we can use them as a computer is an accidental bonus.

I paid $20 (after rebate) for my WL-520GU. I paid $65 for my DSL modem. Both run Linux. I can't log into the modem, but I can log in to the 520GU.

FWIW, I've never had problems with a large copied file. I regularly copy 1GB & 2GB torrent-downloaded files from my router to my desktop.

Hmmm. I have a NSLU2 over clocked at 266 MHz. I can do rsync transfers from across an NFS mount at 4.0 MB/s. I haven't installed NFS on my Asus RT-N16 router yet, but I just clocked it at 5.3 MB/s across a samba mount. I was hoping for something closer to 7 MB/s given the difference in CPU speeds, but they are completely different architectures and a completely different protocols. I think 5.3 is still a pretty good showing, and is still a respectable gain over what I had before. I can probably squeeze a bit more speed out by overclocking the Asus, but I think I'll wait until I see how NFS performs.
