so i finally retired my linksys wrt54gs running tomato and bought an asus rt-n16.
followed the instructions by the book on how to install, reset the data, copied over most of the settings from my old router..
everything is working, but.. the wifi speeds are out of this world bad. 50-200 KB/s is about the range of speed i get. my old router was 3 MB/s over wifi. this is using the same wifi channel, the router and laptop(s) are in the same place (2 feet away right now!). and yet this is the speed i get.
does this sound like its broken? is there any way to test that? ive tried changing so many settings and nothing seems to help.
it doesnt matter what computer im connecting to, ive even tried copying files from a usb stick plugged into the router, its the same slow speed. the TX rate normally reports 150, but also sometimes 135 and 122. and as i say this is 2 feet away from the laptop. i have no other 2.4ghz devices in the house, and that shouldnt matter anyways because the old router did not suffer from this problem.
can someone PLEASE help me diagnose this? should i be sending this router back or what else can i try to do to fix this?
edit: another weird thing is the RX rate is always low, or non existant. heres an example:
