I have an ASUS WL-520GU running Tomato USB BUILD 54. I have been using it with a USB hub for a shared print server and a shared file server with an attached 8GB Sandisk flash drive. Everything has been working great since I set it up but I had chosen the non authentication option on the USB file share. I tried to enable the password protection option with a username and password for the file share and I was not able to connect after I did that even when I supplied the correct username and password.
I was testing this from a
PC running Windows 7 64 bit Professional on which I have a forced USERNAME and PASSWORD login screen (registry edit) for additional security because I had at one point enabled port forwarding for RDP and wanted the username hidden as well.
It seems that the PC is unable to authenticate with the share when I have the password enabled. I tried a couple of different username and password combinations on the router including a username and password that matched the local account I was logged into on the PC (in case that mattered) but nothing seemed to work. After fighting with this for an hour or two I finally turned off the password on the router file share but would like to re-enable it again. I am not sure what I am missing here. Since the accounts on my PC are local it seems like perhaps Win7 is appending the PCNAME\ to the credentials its sending but this is just a guess. I tried forcing various options here as well (such as the workgroup name I configured on the router) but nothing seemed to work. I am an experienced PC tech and have been able to get past similiar PC to PC connection problems before but admittedly I have no experience with Linux and thus I am not sure what on the router side I might be missing.
On a related note I have also been trying to connect to this same share through a couple of different file manager applications runnong on my Droid 2 and my wifes Droid X Android phones (so we can more easily share files like pictures) but I have been unable to get that working either. Both phones are configured for WIFI are in the same subnet as the router nd can otherwise connect to the Tomtato config page for my routers IP but I cant seem to get the share working from them either. I can see the IP of the router and even had one program report back the router model (which it had to query from the router) but I can't seem to get the share to be visible to any of the Android file manager apps (that support network shares such as Astro, AndroXplorer, and the native Mortoral file manager)
Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?
