Have upgraded from DD-WRT(build 14896) to Tomato (tomato-K26-1.28.9054MIPSR1-beta-Std.trx). Then router is not responding afterwards. Have reset several times and the only way I can "see"/PING the router is in the restore mode with the IP address before the flash. (i.e. 192.168.10.20). After flash again with TFTP, I no longer see the router in 192.168.10.20 nor 192.168.1.1. What have I done wrong? Is there anyway to fix it?

Specifically, see the note on 30-30-30. Also, use the Firmware Restoration Utility that's on the CD.
I tried the 30-30-30 reset and tftp many times already, and the result is the same as before. that is, I can only ping the router in restore mode, TTL=100. By reading from the forum that this means the bootloader is working, and no firmware is present. And I have tried tftp the mini_asus build, asus stock firmware, even back to build 14896 and no hope. (noted that the Asus Firmware Restoration utility could not find the router.) One thing I have noted is the IP address.(192.168.10.20)—this was my IP of the router. And it could not be reset back to default like 192.168.1.1.
Is there any way to reset the settings by like TELNET to it?
Odd, that bootloader's supposed to be unbreakable, save for modifying the CFE.
The 520 doesn't have JTAG, you may be screwed. Maybe one of the more experienced members of the forum can help you.
see here how to build a serial cable connection.
I believe it's the only way for you.
Asus RT-N16 Tomato Shibby build5x-101V
TP-Link TL-WR1043ND v1.8 - Openwrt 12.09beta
TP-Link TL-WR703n v1.2 - Openwrt Attitude Ajustement
Asus WL-500gP v1 - wl500g.googlecode.com rtn-r3702
After 8 hrs of frustration and almost no hope at all. I finally able to reset to the defaults 192.168.1.1 by PortalCake's link http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Asus_WL-520GU#Reset_Button. And now it works. I mean at least I can get to the web login with asus stock firmware 2.0.0.8.
Thank you both for the help.
Now, I am back to the start point to get the latest Tomato tomato-K26-1.28.9054MIPSR1-beta-Std.trx onto the router and hope it will go smoothly.
The WL-520gu is very resilient to a bad flash.
I used this method to recover - http://blinkthinks.wordpress.com/2009/03/17/asus-wl-520ug-loving-tomato-firmware/
