When using only the WNR3500L running the latest TomatoUSB, as the only WAP in the house.
I have been having problems streaming Netflix to PS3s and the Roku is always defaulting to the lowest speed quality and even disconnects. An iPod touch would keep dropping its connection.
I ran a 'ping ps3address -t' from my wired desktop and the pings ranged from 1ms to 2ms to 7ms to 700ms to did not respond. So there is a problem there.
I tried the wireless Auto mode in 40 Mhz channel width, made it worse. In auto mode alone in 20 Mhz, no difference.
Looking at the device page, where it lists the signal qualities of the wireless client, everything is very low quality.
I have a WNR3500 v1 that I use only as an access point, with the latest Netgear firmware (as thats all we can put on it). I disabled the WNR3500L's wireless and enabled the WNR3500v1's wireless.
I re-ran a 'ping ps3address -t' from my wired desktop and the pings ranged from 1ms to 2ms for hundreds of pings, with an occasional 70mS. I could use Netflix in High SD quality on the PS3, something I couldn't do with Tomato.
I have used TomatoUSB loaded on a Linksys WRT54G v2.0, and it runs fine, perfectly. Better than either of the Netgears.
The transmit power level was at 42, tried it at 0 and 20, no difference to the power level being received on a wireless laptop running inSSIDer.
