For some reason, I have noticed considerable WAN throughput performance degradation over time with my Tomato USB Asus RT-N16 (running Tomato Firmware v1.28.9054 MIPSR2-beta K26 USB vpn3.6). I have Time Warner Cable, and I pay for 20Mbps, but I rarely get even close to that through the Tomato USB router. Last night, for example, I was getting 1.5-2.5Mbps, and so I plugged my machine directly into the cable modem (bypassing the Tomato USB completely) and I got 23Mbps! I unplugged everything and restarted all of the devices, connecting them a couple of minutes apart (cable modem first, then router, then client machine), and I was then able to get 4Mbps-17Mbps or so. But, I find, that over time, for some reason, the overall WAN performance degrades. I have the QoS features disabled. I wonder if activating this would help at all. I'm almost starting to wonder if it's a wireless issue and i will be testing performance using cabled Ethernet only tonight.
Has anyone else seen this? Are there any suggestions for improving WAN performance?
